Global Warming
To begin our discussion, why not share what you know about Global Warming...What, in your opinion, is the main cause of global warming? How do you think we can do our part to reduce this?

In my opinion, i think that the advance technology & luxury life human leading & deforestation is the main cauze of the global warming.
From our contextual knowledge we know that global warming is the "product" of greenhouse gases.
What produce greenhouse gases? Yes, it is all the engine & industrial we are using. Eg. vehicles produce carbon dioxide & nitrous oxide; deforestation cause to the increase of carbon dioxide too;CFCs another harmful gases which are used in aerosol spray, foam packaging, as coolants in refrigerator & air-conditioner.
i think that we can reduce the number of vehicles by using more public transports & not private car. Instead of air-conditioners we can use fans which had about the same effect. As a student we can use recycle paper to do revision to reduce the number of trees that used for paper.
Global warming is a illness for earth. Since everyone can play a part in curing it, & why don't we
just do it!Save our earth & save ourself...!!!

I do not agree with what xiao juan, kenneth, yanyan and chesed said. It is true that the amount of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide in our atmosphere must be reduced but I believe that the increased green house effect cannot be fully prevented.
Even though we fully prevent the emission of green house gases in the near future, other longer lasting gases like CFC would still continue to worsen global warming. Heat would still continue to rise as years go by. In other words, global warming is pretty much unpreventable.
I am not saying that we should neglect the global warming. However, I beleve that we should not make such as a big fuss out of it. We still should carry out reforestation exercises as well as other effective methods to slow down the green house effect from worsening but we should not overdo things. Instead of replanting the whole forest, we could replant three quaters of it.
In other words, global warming more or less cannot be saved. If so, why are we all so troubled over saving a loss cause?
We should search for a method to deal with global warming head-on, instead of searching for ways to prevent it. Take the catalytic converters for example. These devices tackle the root of the problem, solving it almost instantly. We should redirect ourselves to invent similar products such as the one mentioned above.

What I meant by tackling the problem is to remove the problem itself and not by preventing it. Prevention is out of the question because it is impossible to happen.
Long lasting CFC and the constant release of green house gases would still continue to worsen global warming. Since we cannot prevent, we might as well remove most of the green house gases.
To answer Chesed's question, we should understand that global warming, extreme weather, rising sea levels and the melting of ice caps would still continue even if we stop releasing green house gases immediately.
We cannot stop or prevent these problems, so we need to develop something to CONVERT the problem into something safer like what the catalytic converters are doing.
